ACC#261 RUSSET LACQUERED ‘TENGU-MEN’
18th Century russet lacquered iron ‘tengu-men’. This mask is very broad, with wide mouth, embossed wrinkles, graceful long, curved ‘yadome’, and large detachable tengu nose. The thin moustache is applied with gold lacquer. The interior of the mask is lacquered red. The ‘tare’ (throat guard) is composed of four lames of iron ‘kiritsuke kozane’ (false scales) russet lacquered on the exterior and black on the interior.
