The 25th September 2018 marked the long awaited opening of the new Japanese Art Gallery at the British Museum, sponsored by Mitsubishi.
The opening party was well attended. My wife and I met some old friends, both in and out of the display cabinets.
Following the torrential rains we have experienced here in Western Japan, we have received many messages of concern from you in regard to how we are.
Thank you so much we are all well and unharmed. Kyoto is a safe place to visit for all of you thinking to come over
An answer in regard to a frequently asked question from new clients; Why does it take so long to ship objects abroad?
Japanese Customs have tightened export regulations over recent years for any object leaving the country regardless of value, if over 100 years of age.
All antique objects over 100 years of age are subject to export approval from the Ministry of Culture. This is a formality to ensure that the object is neither stolen or a Government designated National Treasure or Important Cultural Property. Export papers typically take 10 working days to be issued after receipt of application.
We do appologise for this inconvenience.
