Japanese Customs Export Regulations
2018.05.23
An answer in regard to a frequently asked question from new clients; Why does it take so long to ship objects abroad?
Japanese Customs have tightened export regulations over recent years for any object leaving the country regardless of value, if over 100 years of age.
All antique objects over 100 years of age are subject to export approval from the Ministry of Culture. This is a formality to ensure that the object is neither stolen or a Government designated National Treasure or Important Cultural Property. Export papers typically take 10 working days to be issued after receipt of application.
