#2754 WOOD MOUNTED JINDAIKO
Late 18th/ Early 19th Century
The body of this ‘jindaiko’ (war drum) is carved from a single piece of ‘keyaki’ (zelkova) and hollowed out. Then mounted both ends with horse leather, stretched and secured with large standing rivets and decorated with lacquer and gold leaf.

Jindaiko played a large part not just on battlefields and military maneuvers but also for hunting during the more peaceful Edo period.
