#ACC302 A PAIR OF CARVED WOOD ‘SHISHI’ (LION DOGS)
Late 19th/Early 20th Century
This pair of ‘shishi’ are carved from ‘keyaki’ (zelkova) wood, boldly sculptured with muscle, flowing manes and tails. The male with his mouth closed and the female characteristically with mouth open, signifying the cycle of birth and death.
