ACC#306 JAPANESE WOOD POWDER FLASK
18th Century
A beautiful Japanese powder flask made of wood and ivory. The body is carved in relief with a design of grape vines. The significance of this is that the Japanese word for grapes ‘ぶどう’ ‘budou’ sounds exactly like ‘武道’ (way of the warrior).
The neck of the powder flask is with filigree floral designs, the stopper is carved with cherry blossom work in relief, trimmed with buffalo horn.
