HLM#283 SIXTY-TWO PLATE RUSSET IRON ‘GOSHOZAN SUJI KABUTO’

This sixty-two plate helmet from Kaga, comprises a five tier ‘tehen kanamono’ made of mixed soft metals. A small bow hangs from the ‘agemaki no kan’ at the rear of the bowl. The Mabisashi’ (peak) and ‘fukigaeshi’ (turn backs) are trimmed with gilded copper. The ‘mabisashi’ is wrapped in black leather, over which ‘kirigane’ vines and flowers have been applied. The ‘fukigaeshi’ carry the gilded heraldry of the Inaba clan of present day Kyoto Prefecture. A typical Kaga style ‘maedate’ of gilded copper decorates the front of the helmet.
