18th Century ‘sabi-ji nuri resseimen’ (russet lacquered mask with fierce expression) with applied iron ‘kirigane’ across the cheeks in the form plum twigs and buds as well blossom in full bloom. The stamens of the lower flowers double up as ‘orekugi’ to stabilize the helmet cords. The moustache and goatee are made of white animal hair. The interior of the mask is lacquered red. The ‘tare’ (throat guard) is made of four lames of iron plate, three lacquered black, the fourth is decorated with gold leaf ‘tataki-nuri’ lacquer technique.
